Tahrik e Khilafat (Khilafat Movement)
An Indian Muslim movement. It aimed to rouse public opinion against the harsh treatment accorded to the Ottoman empire after World War I and specifically against the treatment of the Ottoman sultan and caliph (khalifa). The movement began in 1919 and, under the leadership of the Ali brothers, Muhammad Ali (1878–1931) and Shaukat Ali (1873–1938), The goals were to support Ottoman Khilafat,unite Muslims and protect Islamic sacred sites. Hazrat Sayyid Jama'at Ali Shah (r.a) supported the movement with funds and delivered passionate speeches at the meetings in different cities.At a meeting in Lyllpur (Faisalabad) Maulana Shaukat Ali challenged the participants "Who is the one ready to sacrifice his life for the way of Allah". Hazrat Amir e Millat responded " I am ready to give my life for sake of Allah". He was given the title of " Sanusi e Hind " by Mawlana Shaukat Ali. The newspaper " Zamindar ,March 10,1921 issue published the proceedings of Lyllpur (Faisalabad ) Conference "The great Sufi Scholar from Punjab Hazrat Pir Jama'at Ali Shah presided at the great Khilafat Conference.He represented the Muslims with moral courage and true Islamic spirit . He stated that whosoever does not love the Khilafat Movement lacks faith.I am ready to give my life for Khilafa and protection of Islamic Sacred Sites." The paper advised the Scholars & Sufis to follow the footsteps of Hazrat Sahib.
